Where I am:

momentum.

Located in the DMV area, returning home to complete my PhD has been a challenging dream come true.

This pivotal point in my life and career requires discipline,  self-motivation and a will to succeed even when I don't have the energy. And let's face it, juggling a pandemic, a toddler and coursework - energy is LOW sometimes. But I have to press on!
As a mother and small business owner, there never seems to be enough time in the day, but I understand that the future I envision for us costs me time and effort, both of which I freely give until the dream is reality.

 confidence.

When I stand in front of the classroom or interact with Artists, they rely on me to guide and encourage them to reach their writing goals. To be confident in them I must be confident in myself: my knowledge and abilities.

What I'm doing

profession.

I assist people in  discovering their unique abilities in writing and speaking.

While I complete my PhD coursework, I instruct English 101 courses at George Mason. Together, we  journey through the rhetorical situation arming  ourselves with knowledge of the unknown and discovering our ability to recognize and serve diverse audiences.

Graduate Writing Program Administrator (gWPA).

Contributing to managing one of the largest composition programs, my unique perspective as a graduate students adds value to an amazing team and provides meaningful mentorship to  MA/MFA TA's as they step into teaching.

research.

educational justice is social justice.

In the beginning, there was a story. We all start with a story. Whether you heard it from your grandmother or read about it in the family history book or during Black History Month. There are many who do not know their stories and many more who do not own them. Instead, they must rely on the voices of others to inform them of their cultural foundations, educational advances and contributions  and artistic abilities. My research focuses on understanding who is voicing the narrative of Black people in higher education and how we can reclaim it and share it from our perspective.

Focusing on the field of writing studies, I seek to contribute to the discussion of Black/African American culture in academia, and support its amplification from and by those who live it to be shared with those who seek to understand it. Simply, let Black people tell their own stories and do their own research and share their knowledge without fear of _________.
